Abstract
- The article focuses on the U.S. need for next-generation air defense systems. The EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler, considered the key electronic jamming aircraft of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, are only equipped with 1970s-vintage ALQ-99 jamming pods. The Next-Generation Jammer (NGJ) program is set to be tackled during planning for the Fiscal 2012 budget. Although upgrades have been made on the ALQ-99 jamming pods, there is still a lack of bandwidth coverage, range and airborne flexibility.
