Abstract
- The author reflects on the genre of mystery fiction, noting that he has never been particularly fond of it. His years as a professional librarian did little to endear the genre to him, as he found its devotees to be among the most insistent and demanding of library patrons. He also mentions his surprise at discovering that one of his college philosophy professors had become a successful writer of mystery novels.
