Abstract: The article discusses currency unification in Europe. Particular focus is given to experiments with a cross-national currency in Europe since 1861, along with the paper money experiment of the Chinese. Reviews of artist Robert Kalina's design for the new common currency of countries in the euro zone have been negative. According to the author, the euro will never be a symbol of democracy since not one of the 12 countries which have adopted the common currency allowed their citizens to vote on it.
