Presents a synthesis of a single phase gamma-Fe[sub 4]N type (Fe[sub 1] [sub x]Ni[sub x])[sub 4]N iron nitride compounds. Examination of the compounds by x-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy; Reduction of lattice constants with increasing nickel content; Value of the average expansion of the unit cell for gamma-iron-nickel alloys.
