Abstract

The article presents a study on the uptake of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) testing and counseling (HTC) among the poorest families in sub-Saharan countries. Residents and their spouses aging 18 to 35 in six villages in Likoma Island, Malawi, Africa were given home-based HTC services during the study. Results showed that lowest income quartile household members have a little chance to utilize home-based HTC services. The study also suggests the use of HTC to lessen the impact of AIDS.
