Abstract
- The article offers a model for thinking about library patron online privacy in the context of librarians who are working the U.S. in public or academic libraries. The potential ethical conflicts between library and social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook and provides a foundation for further debate on this. The benefits to libraries of maintaining a presence on the social networking sites are considered. Libraries' role in social networking sites, their commitment to privacy, what librarians should know about confidentiality, and how these concerns affect libraries are discussed.
