Abstract

The article discusses the history of the London Bridge in London, England. The bridge was first completed in 1209, and would be the city's only crossing over the Thames river until the year 1729. The author details the impact of the bridge on the city's social and economic history, specifically focusing on its status as a place of exchange and barter. The physical attributes of the bridge, which was 900 ft. long and set upon 20 piers, are examined, as well as building materials that were used for its construction.
