Abstract

A study of the interaction of global social movements and global economic institutions in 2000 concluded that their interaction could best be described as an environment of Complex Multilateralism. This paper revisits and critiques the concept after a period of seven years. The paper argues that while the five characteristics of complexmultilateralism still apply, the concept needs to be expanded and contextualized. Analysis focuses on the changing role of the state, corporate participation in governance and the apparent dilution of the influence of global economic institutions. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
