Abstract

The article offers information on the genetic study of HpxO enzyme from Klebsiella pneumoniae which was proposed to catalyze the hydroxylation of uric acid to 5-hydroxyisourate. It explores the prediction that HpxO is a flavin cofactor (FAD) dependent urate oxidase and look at its catalytic activity by cloning tagged proteins and analysing its absorption spectra. It also shows a mechanism for urate oxidation and microbial purine metabolism.
