Abstract

This paper aims to describe and analyse the social and educative experiences of the applicants to the Social Working University degree (Faculty of Law and Social Sciences Cordoba National University). The research sources come from an auto-administered survey that the applicants fill out during their first course which questions on dimensions such as: the applicants and their parents' working and educative experiences, age, sex, reading abilities, studying methods and abilities, cultural consumption, readings, among others. From this data, we analyse their experiences in the light of the Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical concepts of social and cultural capital. We aim to search for their possibilities and limitations that relate to the competences and abilities which allow them to move through the university spaces. Finally, we objectivise the need to support the student along his/her first courses to compensate the conceptual-comprehension difficulties of the career contents, and demystify and question these assistance paradigms on the learning field.
