Abstract

The article presents an assessment of malignant hyperthermia (MH) and the predictors associated with in-hospital mortality in the U.S. between 2000 and 2005. It used an administrative national database representative of the country hospital charges, particularly data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. It reveals that incidence of MH in the country had increased and the overall mortality rate in patients with a diagnosis of MH was 11.7%. It suggests that based on the data, it should enable the identification of areas requiring increased focus in MH-related education.
