Abstract

Human skeletons associated with different mortuary practices have been studied in submerged sinkholes (cenotes) of the Mexican states of Quintana Roo and Yucatán. One of those practices was human sacrifice. However, not all the cases presented here correspond to sacrificial practices. The maximum number of individuals in a cenote is more than 120. The results show more than one mortuary practice in each cenote. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
