Abstract

The article focuses on Julie Fowlis, a Scottish traditional musician who sings in Scottish Gaelic. She grew up in North Uist in Scotland and became a member of the Scottish sextet, Dòchas who were declared as Best Newcomer at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2004. Her first solo album was "Mar a Tha Mo Chridhe" (As My Heart Is) followed by "Cuilidh" in 2007 which garnered worldwide attention. In October 2008, she released "Dual," an album recorded in collaboration with Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Ross Martin and husband Éamonn Doorley.
