Abstract

This paper explores a significant phenomenon, little studied by Colombian academia: the rise of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as subjects of international law. These groups, which some authors have called the "third sector", managed to gain such prominence in the twentieth century that it is now necessary to consider them under the international legal system and in international political analysis. For this reason, from an historical perspective and based on the theory of interdependence, the author explains how NGOs were able to insert themselves in the international legal arena.
