Abstract

Information on esophageal reconstruction with the use of substernal colon from the book "Atlas Gastrointestinal Surgery" Volume One, Second edition is presented. It states that placing the colon in the retrosternal position for reconstructing or bypassing the esophagus is seldom used as a surgical option. It mentions that in some cases, patients with esophageal neoplasms are best palliated without conducting an esophagectomy.
