Abstract

The article presents a study on striate palmoplantar keratoderma (SPPK), which is mainly characterized by linear hyperkeratosis of the fingers' volar aspects. Study shows strong evidence that SPPK is caused by defects in desmosomes, conferring the strength and rigidity to tissues which will experience high mechanical stress. It is also noted that the light microscopy of affected plantar epidermis is likely to show acanthosis.
