Abstract

The article discusses reasons why obesity is prevalent in Australia. It suggests that people with less financial resources are more likely to be obese because their diets are high in the non-core foods. Data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) revealed that prices of some healthy foods such as meat, milk, eggs and bread have risen in cost relative to inflation. On the other hand, prices of soft drinks, cake and biscuits have dropped below inflation, driving increased consumption.
