Abstract

The article discusses the definitions and specifics of the Hundred Years War. The author comments on varying chronological definitions of the war, which consisted of various conflicts between France and England, and suggests the conflicts were grouped due to the perceptions of French historians. Different phases of the war included conflicts between former English king Edward III and former French king Philip VI, naval battles between the countries and the Lancastrian campaigns in which England lost most of its French territories. The war began when the French aided the Scottish against English military campaigns. The French later fought England to regain territories conquered by England. Henry IV's attempt to prove his legitimacy as king of England led to further battles with France.
