Abstract
- The article reports on the arrest of 45 members of the notorious Avenues gang by about 1,300 Los Angeles, California police officers on September 22, 2009. The arrest came after a federal racketeering indictment alleged crimes ranging from extortion to murder. The gang was also blamed for the killing of a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in 2008. It is noted that the gang has direct ties to the prison-based gang, Mexican Mafia.
