Abstract

The article reports that Maryland education officials released data indicating that 11 students, fewer than expected, were prevented from graduating in the 2009 class because of state tests. Other students who did not graduate were prevented from doing so by not passing classes or by failure to meet other criteria. Data also indicated that dropout rates decreased to 2.6 percent in 2009 compared to 2.8 in 2008. Dropout rates in Baltimore dropped to six percent, a 40 percent drop over three years.
