Abstract

The article presents a study on the probability of detection of nests and its significance to survey design. The researchers used a double sampling method to predict closely complete counts of birds in the intensively surveyed plots by calculating the probability of detecting active shorebird nests. Results show that the probability varies considerably by species and it suggests that the method is likely to be met for bird's nests that survive over several visits.
