Abstract

The article discusses the genocide of Soviet prisoners of war (POWs) during World War II and the reign of German dictator Adolph Hitler. The author begins by examining the death toll of Soviets during the war, which has been estimated to be up to 30 million. The author states that the Germans captured around 5 and 6 million Soviet troops, and between 3.3 and 3.5 million died in captivity. Subjects of the article also include atrocities suffered while in German captivity, experiences of the repatriated soldiers who were sent to Soviet labor camps up to another decade after the war ended.
