Abstract

The authors reflect on the proposition of various rules in light of failures of young researchers to mature as professional scientists upon their return to their country from advanced training. They note rules that include understanding one's country, focusing on scientific work, and being wise in the selection of research topic. They mention the need for researchers in low-income countries (LIC) to cultivate their desire to contribute to the scientific development of their homeland.
