Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show that stability of the external security environments of the Third World socialist states plays a significant role in pursuing economic reform policies causing a certain pattern in reform policies. The main hypothesis is that the more stable external security environment of the country expedites radical type of reform in these countries. This study ultimately intends to offer useful implication for North Korea. .x000d..x000d.The main purpose of paper is to show the relations between the security factor in IR is crucial in pursing domestic reforms especially in the smaller socialist states, thus to emphasize of the role of management of stable security in these states. .x000d.To substantiate the argument, first, I follow the logical structure of B.Chavance(1994), which divides the stages of economic transition into four parts on the characteristics of the economic reform, then analyze the procedures of economic reform policies implemented in Vietnam and Cuba, the situation of the security environment of the two countries, and compare the outcome of reform policies in relation to the security environment. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
