Abstract

The article recalls the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 and its contribution to reunity of the Europe and the development of capitalism over communism. It attributes the collapse of the Berlin wall to the actions taken by ordinary people who fought for freedom and rebuild their lives over the next two decades. It cites the increased consumption of McDonald's products by eastern Germans upon the opening of the border. McDonald's owner Klaus Rader sold his business and invested his money in the Italian restaurant chain Vapiano.
