Abstract
- The article presents a discussion of U.S. President Barack Obama from the standpoint of his impact on visual culture, focusing on his association with the American flag. Obama's relationship to musical culture is also noted, as two of the songs which have been used as soundtracks to his public appearances are discussed. The significance of Obama's status as the first African American president is noted. Changing racial attitudes in America in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 are also analyzed.
