Abstract

The author offers his insights on the Union Carbide India Ltd.'s factory disaster in Bhopal, India. He discusses the administration of sodium thiosulphate (NaTS) as an antidote, recommended by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), to treat the survivors of the disaster. He reflects on the studies conducted by the Medico Friend Circle, one was a comparative study to indicate the symptoms of the exposed population, and the other was on the outcomes of pregnancy and abortion rates in the exposed population. He discourages the efforts of the state government to support the survivors, and the conflicts among leaders of support groups.
