Abstract

The article reports that despite funding issues, Lockheed Martin is proceeding with development and early planning for production of the Medium-Extended Air Defense System (MEADS). The $19-billion air and missile defense program is being jointly developed by the U.S., Germany and Italy. But, as with any multinational effort, the program is overseen by a large and cumbersome management structure, causing some frustration on the part of the U.S. Army, which manages Washington's contribution to the program.
