Abstract
- The subject of this paper is popular scientific culture and its significance in the city of Philadelphia during the 1820s. The impact of the public lecturer Robert Goodacre was at least some function of the difference between the demand for popular science and the provision of associational science in a city on the brink of fundamental social change.
