Abstract
- The author reflects on the debate about the total error and the uncertainty of measurements performed in clinical laboratories. He states that the uncertainty concept should meet widespread practical acceptance so that clinical laboratories can estimate the characteristic using the information that already exists. He infers that clinical laboratories must verify the consistency of declared performance during routine operations performed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
