Implementing Surgical Smoke Evacuation in the Operating Room.

The article discusses a nurse-led effort to implement surgical smoke evacuation devices in operating rooms (OR) in order to offer patients and health workers added protection from the negative effects of smoke inhalation. The evidence-based practice project at Children's Hospital Boston took two years to implement and resulted in the implementation of smoke evacuation devices being used during certain surgical procedures including gynecologic surgery and orthopedic surgery.
