Abstract

The paper describes the characteristics of two new varieties of six-rowed winter barley, Novosadski 737 and Nonius, developed at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. In the official variety trials in Serbia, Novosadski 737 and Nonius outyielded the standard variety Novosadski 313 by 508 and 396 kg/ha, respectively. Both varieties matured four days earlier than the standard and had large grains with a protein content of over 12%. Novosadski 737 is recommended for cultivation on poorer soils, while Nonius is particularly suitable for moderately fertile soils. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
