Abstract

The article reports on the plan of India to reduce its carbon emission intensity voluntarily by 2020. According to the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF), the country will reduce this intensity by 20-25% by 2020 from 2005 levels. However, MOEF Minister Jairam Ramesh said that India will not accept legally binding greenhouse gas (GHG) emission cuts at the climate change summit being held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Ramesh added that the ministry plans to impose a series of policy measures and strict emissions regime through new laws.
