Belletjiesbos, Draper Street and the Vlak: The Coloured Neighbourhoods of Claremont before Group Areas.

The first section of this paper explores the localised sense of identity among the coloured communities of Claremont in the period prior to removal. This is followed by an attempt to reconstruct a picture of their worlds of work, custom and leisure. Finally, the paper deals with the process of the removal during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
