Abstract: The article informs about a study on the role of stem cells in chemical carcinogenesis. It is speculated that tumors may arise from stem cells especially in tissues with a high selfrenewing capacity, such as the haematopoietic system, gut and the skin. It is stated that the rapid progress in stem cell and cancer stem cell research will provide effective insights in carcinogenesis, resulting in considerable improvement in cancer treatments.
