Abstract
- The article discusses the history of United States Air Force traditions and administrative policies regarding the length of service required for combat crew personnel, focusing particularly on the Vietnam War. The author presents an overview of rules regarding the length of combat service, either as a specific period of time or a certain number of combat missions, from World War II to the Vietnam War. Other subjects include descriptions of Air Force celebrations for airmen who reached the end of their combat tours, military decorations designed to commemorate combat service, and issues regarding combat flights over Laos during the Vietnam War.
