Abstract

The article offers information on a study done by a team of researchers at the University of Miami regarding unpredictability of insurgent attacks. It informs that researchers of the University of Miami have developed a mathematical model to make predictions about insurgent wars and estimate the timing and strength of insurgent attacks. The researchers used software tools to analyze the size and timing of several violent events occurred in various countries and described the way humans carry out insurgency and terrorism. Neil Johnson, principal investigator of this study informs that the insurgency model is similar to models of crowd behavior or financial markets and has helped in establishing a relation among insurgency, global terrorism and ecology.
