Abstract

The author reflects on the study by K. Baumgart and colleagues on the effect of inhaled hydrogen sulfide on cardiac function and metabolism in mice subjected to hypothermia. The author expresses that hydrogen sulfide inhalation has enabled the use of glucose as substrates during hypothermia. He also stresses that the inhalation did not amplify the systemic hemodynamic and cardiac metabolic effects of hypothermia, however, it has improved the preservation of the outer mitochondrial membranes.
