Abstract

The article discusses the proliferation of poetry journals and blogs in the 21st century. It quotes Len Fulton, editor of the International Directory of Little Magazines and Small Presses, saying there were about 300-400 poetry journals in 1960 compared to more than 2,000 in 2010. It notes that this is a good thing, pointing out the the poems published in established magazines such as "The New Yorker" and "Poetry" are not likely to be poets of the merit of William Blake or Emily Dickinson. Poetry publishing, it notes, has been too much about where someone teachers and who they know than about how good their poems are. It therefore applauds the proliferation.
