Abstract
- The article focuses on the U.S. 1st Marine Division's assignment to the island of Pavuvu, the largest of the Russell Islands in the Pacific Ocean, during World War II. An explanation for why the III Amphibious Corps chose Pavuvu is offered. Article topics include the Marine division's accommodations, the island's animals, and the recreation of the marines.
