Abstract

Castleman's disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder of unknown etiology. The most frequent location of the disease is the mediastinum. Castleman's disease involving the pleura is rare, with only 3 previously reported cases. Here we describe the case of a 20-year-old female with the incidental finding of a pleural mass, discovered during a health checkup. X-rays and a computerized tomography (CT) scan revealed a relatively well circumscribed,4-5 cm ×2-2 cm,flat-round mass arising from the right parietal pleura and compressing the lung. It had the density of soft tissue. The lung did not show significant change. The final diagnosis was reached after surgical resection of the mass. On histopathologic examination this mass showed features of Castleman's disease of the hyaline vascular-type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
