Abstract: The article presents news briefs concerning American literature. The article reports that Cecelia Tichi, a professor of English at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, was awarded the 2009 Jay B. Hubbell Medal. Nicholas Gaskill was awarded the Norman Foerster Prize for the best essay published in the "American Literature" journal. The article also discusses the science fiction genre. The author talks about the scientific and technological innovations addressed through science fiction. A call for papers regarding science fiction is also presented.
