Abstract

The article discusses documents released by a U.S. Senate committee investigating the financial services company Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and its role in the global financial crisis. The documents describe how subprime mortgages were turned into mortgage bonds and mortgage-backed securities by Goldman and other firms, which created a situation where the default on a relatively small number of mortgage loans generated huge losses for the financial services industry and financiers.
