Abstract

The article comments on the pace of the economic recovery of China following the global financial crisis with focus on the evolution of the country's railway system. It emphasizes the developments in railway system of the country, including the opening of the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway and of the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway. Railways are deemed cheaper, more comfortable, and a low-carbon alternative for a country with a huge population and wide territory. Moreover, the U.S. appears interested in China's expertise in railway construction.
