Abstract

Comments on the roles of labor and leisure in United States culture, as of September 2001. How the definition of labor has changed in the last few centuries, to include greater rights and easier conditions for workers; Comment that an increasing trend of leisure has transformed how U.S. workers think about their daily lives; View that the work ethic is being replaced with a so-called fun ethic, which values leisure over labor and expects more benefits from jobs than just a source of income.
