Abstract

The article presents a study which examined the similarities and differences of humpback whale tail fluke photograph-identification catalogues from Oman, Madagascar and the East African mainland. It is stated that there is no feasible migration routes to any of the known Northern Hemisphere humpback whale feeding grounds using data on reproductive parameters as well as observations of calves and recordings of humpback whale song off the coast of Oman. The authors used the best quality photographs of each individual identified and merged into an inter-regional database.
