Abstract

The article presents information on several recent developments related to the computer industry in the U.S. Jack Moshman has been elected president of the American Federation of Information Processing Societies (AFIPS). Moshman, whose term as AFIPS president runs for one year, has since 1970 been president of Moshman Associates, an analytical consulting firm. The Charles Babbage Institute has published a guide to its oral history collection, which contains more than 140 interviews focused on computer and communications technology and their business and institutional contexts in the period since 1935. The computer, business equipment, and telecommunications industry has reported a positive trade balance of $1,424 billion for the first six months of 1986, according to the Computer and Business Equipment Manufacturers Association. The Boston Museum of Science has announced a $2 million commitment from Digital Equipment Corporation to sponsor the creation of a major artificial intelligence and robotics exhibition.
