Abstract

A biography of Cardinal John Henry Newman, a Catholic scholar, who will be beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in September 2010 is presented. Newman was born in London, England on February 21, 1801 and raised in a Low Church Anglican family. He studied at the University of Oxford and Trinity College, Oxford. A study of Christological heresies convinced Newman of the errors of Anglicanism and he converted to the Roman Catholic Church at the age of 44. In life, he published many articles and books which promoted greater understanding of the Catholic Church.
