Abstract
- The article discusses challenges faced by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in dealing with troubled real-estate assets acquired when it provided assistance to financial firm Bear Stearns in 2008. If the Bank forecloses on many properties, it could provoke political opposition. However, the U.S. Congress has an interest in seeing the bank recoup $29 billion in loans backed by the properties.
