Abstract
- The article focuses on the infection control in the intensive care unit (ICU) which includes catheter-related bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia. It highlights the factors in decreasing the rates of ICU hospital-acquired infections in the past decade including standardization of care, technological advances, and consumer activism. It mentions that teamwork and communication remained the most significant aspect in patient safety.
